“I had worked out off and on for most of my adult life with acceptable results. However, after a few years of decreased activity I noticed the pounds going on, my energy level was falling and body fat going up. In the Fall of 2010 I finally decided something needed to change and began looking for a Personal Trainer. After careful research, I found Brian Maher of Philly Personal Training. I was impressed with Brian’s education, certification and approach. I have been working out with Brian twice a week since. This is one of the best decisions I have ever made!
In a few short months I lost 20 pounds and reduced my body fat by more than 5%. Then, with Brian’s coaching and running plans I ran the Broad Street Run, a Half Marathon and the Philadelphia Marathon within the first year of training with him. It had been 20 years since I had run on a regular basis and never competed in a race longer than a 5K. Running a marathon had been in the back of mind for about 20 years but I am sure it would not have happened if I had not started training with Brian.
Brian is extremely knowledgeable about fitness, nutrition and motivation. We regularly talk about goals and set new goals as achievements are made. His routine evaluations are helpful not only to track progress and measure results but to refine goals. We have worked out together for more than a year now and I don’t think two workouts have ever been exactly the same! He is great at adding new exercises and changing routines to ensure your fitness goals are met and to keep you focused, motivated and interested during every session. He often has a new “surprise” for me that is fun and challenging. He continues to push me to new levels!
Brian understands that good health and fitness doesn’t happen in a couple of sessions a week and he provides you with the tools you need to make the changes in your daily life. Whether that be a meal plan; or nutritional counseling; or a running/walking plan; or an exercise routine to do “solo”; or motivational tips to keep you focused on your goal. Brian has easily adapted workout routines and nutritional information as my goals changed. I look forward to my training sessions with Brian – it’s the best part of my week! During our training sessions I work harder and smarter than I ever could have by myself.
I am in the best physical shape of my life thanks to Brian!”

“I have worked with many personal trainers over the years, but nobody else helped me reach the level of fitness that I achieved from training with Brian. When we first began my program, I had three goals – lose weight, increase strength and improve endurance. With Brian’s guidance, I not only met my original targets but exceeded them in numbers far beyond my expectations.
In six months, I dropped 48 pounds – 20% of my body weight, 15 pounds below my original goal and almost 7 inches from around my waist. My strength tripled on nearly every exercise we measured. Most incredible to me was that I went from run/walking a 5K in almost 40 minutes to my new personal best 5K run of 24:36 (I was never a runner before I met Brian).
Brian is not only a personal trainer, but also a coach. In addition to the two mornings a week we worked out together, he encouraged me to change my life habits so I could not only achieve my goals with him, but keep those high standards when I trained on my own. My nutrition improved and my “solo” workouts continued to strengthen even when I wasn’t in a formal personal training training session. I would recommend Brian to anyone looking for fast, effective and long-lasting results.”

“In May of 2010, my father had major heart surgery which pushed me to take a look at my personal risks and the action I needed to take to reduce those risks. In June, I made the decision to begin a fitness program with an individual who was highly educated as a Personal Fitness Trainer. The education was very important to me as I wanted someone who could ensure my safety regarding how much I should do and how fast when exercising. I was very fortunate to have found that in Brian Maher of Philly Personal Training. Prior to working with Brian I lost 9 pounds and went from a size 12 to 10 by changing my eating habits but I could not get my weight down any further and my cholesterol, blood pressure and sugar numbers were still high. Brian put me on a meal plan and an exercise regimen that brought my high cholesterol, blood pressure and sugar down to normal ranges within 5 months. My doctor is now looking at taking me off of my blood pressure medicine which is a goal I never thought I would achieve. In addition, I lost 30 pounds during that 5 months and went from a size 10 to a size 0. I feel better than I have felt in 12 years and confident that I can maintain my weight and health numbers due to the education and confidence I have gained during my tenure with Brian. In addition, due to being in this program I am getting reduced rates on my health insurance at work.
Prior to working with Brian, I would workout by myself but never pushed myself as I was scared due to my age and being out of shape. Brian monitored my heart rate, the reaction of my muscles to exercises and gradually built my stamina and strength and before I knew it, I was doing more than I ever thought I would achieve. I am not a person who is disciplined to exercise, working with Brian has helped me achieve goals far beyond any expectations I ever had for myself. This experience has changed my life as I have energy, sleep better, feel and look younger and have achieved a fitness level I never thought I would ever achieve. I am more motivated than ever to maintain the health I am feeling.”

“I have struggled with my body image my entire life. I tried just about everything to lose weight including countless diets, camps, and even weight loss pills.
About 4 years ago my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, after completion of chemotherapy and radiation our family decided to support my mothers fight against breast cancer in the Susan G. Komen 3 day walk for a cure. I was at my heaviest during this time in my life and my self esteem was at an all time low. I barely made it through the walk and ended up in the hospital because I physically could not get through the walk. I was embarrassed and disappointed in myself. This was when I decided to take control of my life by hiring a personal trainer.
I have had personal trainers in the past and none compare to Brian. I have been training with Brian for about 3 years now and I have accomplished things I never thought possible. I have lost over 50 lbs and dropped multiple inches. I am more confident in myself and my self esteem has improved greatly. It definitely wasn’t easy at first and I hated exercising, but Brian helped me gain my confidence back and pushed me to successfully reach my personal goals. Everyday is a challenge when you struggle with body image and weight issues and Brian continues to provide me with the tools to continue to be successful and achieve my goals.”

“I just can’t say enough good things about this service. First, the personal training facility is private, well-maintained, and includes a wide variety of new equipment. I train on-site and enjoy the privacy that it affords. It also includes a nice bathroom in which you can shower and change. Truly top-notch personal training facility.
Next, when you choose to train with them, you discuss your goals and diet and they provide you with a meal plan that is super easy to follow. It has made a huge difference in my household and in helping me to meet my goals. Who knew black beans were so versatile!
Finally, I’d like to speak to the staff part of the experience. Wow. I train with Elizabeth M. She is both an incredibly kind person and an incredibly competent and knowledgeable trainer. She has revolutionized how I work out. She also makes the time fly by with her wit and humor. Most important is the impact her planning and expertise have had on the quality of my life. Bursitis – gone within two weeks. Knee pain – considerably lessened. Swelling in extremities during travel – disappeared! This woman is a miracle worker. I’m stronger, fitter, and my ass has decreased in width – all thanks to Elizabeth’s diligence.
If you are considering a personal training service, I highly recommend Philly Personal Training. It will make all the difference.”

“Shaun is very knowledgeable on physical therapy as well as personal training. He is a great motivator without being pushy in anyway and can get you to break through any physical or mental obstacles you may have.”

“I can’t say enough fantastic things about Philly Personal Training! I began working with Brian almost 3 years ago after hitting a breaking point with my weight. I was the heaviest I’d ever been and getting back to my old self without help felt impossible. When I came across Philly Personal Training, I was first impressed by Brian’s academic and professional background. I felt much more confident working with someone who had an advanced degree in exercise and sport science than someone who has a basic background in personal training in a larger gym. Food has always been my Achilles’ heel, so Brian being able to also help with nutrition was a huge bonus. The initial consultation made me even more comfortable and confident that Brian would be able to help me get to where I wanted to be. I knew Brian wasn’t going to be the kind of personal trainer who pushed you until you were physically sick or made you feel terrible for struggling with an exercise. That approach definitely works for some people but I’m not one of them.
Over the years, Brian has worked with me to fix some physical weaknesses. My most recent challenge has been back pain and fatigue from work. I work in the dental field and much of my day is spent on my feet or in an awkwardly contorted position to work on patients. We have begun to do focused exercises to strengthen my back and I am shocked and thrilled at how quickly I’ve seen results. It is now infinitely easier to get through my workday and I don’t have the same amount of discomfort when I get home at night.
I cannot believe where I am now versus where I was when I first began training. I am in the best shape of my life and more confident than I’ve ever been and my entire life has gotten better as a result. I am more confident at work and in various social situations. There were so many times when I left clothing stores in tears because of how much I hated the way I looked but now shopping is actually fun. It feels fantastic when people tell me how good I look but what really matters is that I finally feel fantastic. As a result, my training focus has shifted from losing weight to gaining even more strength. Knowing I can lift weight that even some men can’t is far more exhilarating and rewarding than fitting into a size 2 or 4. I love the reaction I get when I tell someone how much weight I can do with dumbbell rows or bench presses.
Brian’s holistic approach to health and well-being is tough to find nowadays. Everyone, including myself three years ago, wants quick, instant results but those are the ones that don’t last. The results I have achieved are lasting and there’s no way I will ever go back to what I used to be. I know I wouldn’t be where I am now without Philly Personal Training and for that I am beyond grateful.”
- Stephanie M. from Philadelphia
“I’ve been training with Elizabeth at Philly Personal Training since September and I’m extremely happy with the progress I’ve made and the experience I’ve had so far. I’ve worked out many times before in my life but I would end up falling off and found it difficult to get motivated and stick with something longer than the 3 months before swimsuit season!
I decided that my ‘on again off again pattern’ wasn’t working and if I wanted to get serious, I should invest in a personal trainer. I’m convinced that this is the best decision I ever made. I tend to have exercise ADD so I get really into a specific workout and then get bored after a few months ( T25 & P90x etc.). I explained my workout history to Elizabeth when we first started working together and right from the start we did something different each week. I never know what to expect and I love it! Don’t let the cute little face fool you – she’s super tough and she pushes me harder and further each week! On the flip side she also understands how to properly motivate and encourage me when I’m struggling in a certain area or just feel like giving up. This is the only time I’ve ever been motivated enough to stick with a workout schedule each and every week without giving up! The main reason for me continuing and making this a way of life vs. a quick fix is that I started to see results right away. I feel firmer and stronger definitely look and feel better in clothes – especially my butt and thighs!
I know now that this is a lifestyle change for me and I’m ok with not having things happening overnight because I’m seeing small changes each week. Elizabeth has also helped me with proper workout form, easy routines to do at home, and a diet that works with my personal habits and tastes. The facilities are private, state of the art and right around the corner from my job which makes it really easy to schedule. I really cant say enough about this place. I highly recommend them, you can tell they are professionals who are at the top of their game. I’m so happy I made this decision and I’m looking forward to continuing my growth with Philly Personal Training”
- Pamela B. from Philadelphia
“My experience at Philly Personal Training has truly been second-to-none. After working with two different personal trainers and a physical therapist in New York, I came to Philly Personal Training looking to build strength and to learn more about improving my own fitness. Shaun Logan is thoroughly prepared for each and every workout and gives genuine thought to each client’s goals and growth. His philosophy of injury prevention and functional strength training has improved my personal fitness and has paid off in my professional life as well. The physical space at PPT is welcoming, clean, and has all the equipment necessary to keep your workouts from getting stale. Brian Maher has built a great business in the heart of Rittenhouse.”
- MaryJane A. from Philadelphia
“I’ve been coming here for a couple months now, working with Elizabeth, and it’s been great! Getting started was quick and easy and the workouts are always great; I’m always sore. Elizabeth is always very easy to reach and flexible with scheduling times as well as changing up workouts depending on what I want/need. Definitely recommend Philly Personal Training!”
- Josie A. from Philadelphia
“I can’t say enough good things about Philly Personal Training, and Elizabeth in particular! Like others who have posted here, I went to Philly Personal Training when I needed some help getting back on the health & fitness wagon. I’d just turned 30, had struggled through a recent illness, and was facing some chaos in my personal life. I decided to spend the money on personal training once a week to get myself back into a fitness routine, and thought that having a trainer would help push me further than I’d do myself.
It did so much more. The habits I developed during my training sessions (From September-November) stuck with me, even after I discontinued my training due to moving out of the area, and now when I work out on my own, I can better understand when I can push myself and when my body needs to rest. My intimidation about weight or TRX machines at the gym is gone because I know how to use them. Even after a lapse in working out, I feel more optimistic about getting back into a routine, because I know that my body will build strength in time.
A bit about the process: I did an intake interview with Brian, who asked me about my goals, and matched me up with Elizabeth. She is FABULOUS. Tough enough that my muscles felt like jelly after leaving most sessions, but 100% positive and encouraging. One thing in particular that impressed me is her education — Elizabeth has a degree in exercise science, which meant that she was able to devise work-arounds for some old injuries / weak spots I have, and we RARELY repeated exercises — she’s great at coming up with creative and challenging activities. Further, she was great about being flexible with meeting times. I’m a consultant with a frequently-changing schedule, and she was great about accommodating this with a few days’ heads up.
Philly Personal Training’s Center City location was easy to get to, and their gym clean and well-lit. There’s even a shower onsite if you need to dash off to work after an appointment. The one thing I didn’t really utilize was the nutrition side of their program. I felt pretty good about my eating habits, so didn’t engage much with their meal plans. However, others might find this feature useful.
Overall, a great experience, and I’d highly recommend.”
- Mariel F. from Philadelphia
“My experience at Philly Personal Training was a very valuable one. I had never done any Personal Training before and needed a lot of help. Shaun was incredibly thorough with my routine and helped me to learn all of the basics you need to know about strength training. This combined with the meal plan helped me to learn so much about living an all around healthier lifestyle. I was very impressed with the way everything was run there and how the team takes so much pride in their work – which all benefited me greatly!”
- Courtney G. from Philadelphia
“Elizabeth is the third personal trainer I have had and in over thirty four years, she is the best. I see and feel the results, like muscle tone. This was the fastest I have ever experienced that much improvement in muscle tone. Elizabeth is relentless in pushing me as hard as I can perform yet she is very mindful of the limitations of my prior shoulder surgery and back issues common in a 67 year old man.”
- Paul G. from Philadelphia
“I am extremely happy with my experience at Philly Personal Training so far. Although many people seek a personal trainer to lose weight, I was trying to gain weight (since I always struggled to keep on weight), become more toned, and lead a healthy nutritious lifestyle as well. I was able to gain 4 pounds in my first week and my measurements also increased.
Brian created a customized meal plan for me and constantly keeps up with how I am doing with it. Elizabeth is my weekly trainer. She is also beyond amazing. She motivates me to keep going, she listens to my concerns, sends me workouts I can do outside of the Philly Personal Training gym, is always available whenever I have questions, and cares about her clients so much – she really has become a friend!
I highly recommend Philly Personal Training to anyone who wants to take that leap into leading a healthier lifestyle. No matter what your circumstances are – whether you are aiming to lose weight, gain muscle, get toned, or simply keep up with your healthy body – I assure you that Philly Personal Training offers the best trainers and service in Philadelphia!
P.S.: Please note that they are certified trainers and have years of experience, as well as a relevant degree, unlike a lot of personal trainers in other gyms. In other words, they really know what they’re talking about!”
- Mona E. from Philadelphia
“I have been training with Elizabeth Marmer for a year and have been very pleased with her training knowledge and skills. Elizabeth is very detail oriented, and concisely explains why we need to do methods a certain way to obtain maximum results and to reduce risks for muscle injury. She is very knowledgeable, professional, punctual, and demonstrates good communication skills. Most importantly, her enthusiasm and desire to help people improve their health, and achieve fitness goals sets her apart from other personal trainers. If you’re looking to improve your fitness and overall well-being, I highly recommend using her services!”
-Bill S. from Philadelphia
“My goal: to strengthen my lower back, which I’d injured several times over the past few years and seemed always stiff in the mornings and sore even after only moderate physical activity. So I started working with Elizabeth in September 2014 and within two weeks I was already seeing results. Now when I play Ultimate my back is the LAST thing to get tired…hurray!
Elizabeth’s great; she knows when to push you harder and when you’ve reached your limit. I recommend her to anyone.”
- Neil M. from Philadelphia
“I highly recommend Brian as a personal trainer. He listens to your needs and wants, and creates workouts based on your personal goals. In just 3 months of training with Brian, one day per week, I’ve lost inches on every part of my body. My body fat percentage also decreased almost 5%! Brian is very knowledgeable and will tell you which body part you are working with each exercise. The 2 other trainers I have worked with in the past never were able to tell me which exact muscle group I was working with each exercise, but Brian can and does.
Aside from working out with Brian once per week, he makes me workout plans based on my personal goals so that I can strength train on days that I don’t train with him. He has also made me a running plan to reach a goal of running 5 miles and will be making me a plan to run a half marathon.
In a nutshell, if you are looking to transform your body with an extremely educated and accommodating trainer, you need to call Brian NOW!”
- Alli E. from Philadelphia
“How do you keep someone motivated to exercise that has multiple congenital and physical limitations that greatly reduce the variety and intensity of possible activity? Ask Elizabeth Marmer…she knows.
For years, Elizabeth has dedicated her extensive kinesthetic knowledge, keen anatomical understanding, boundless patience, and endless enthusiasm to helping people of all types achieve better health through proper physical training. Whether you are a competitive athlete striving for that next level, a senior citizen fighting for the strength and flexibility that independent living requires, a new mom looking to bounce back from pregnancy, or someone like me, a person with a variety of personal limitations, Elizabeth is able to tailor her style and workouts to help achieve your goals.
I know that I am not an easy person to train. First of all, I hate exercising. But Elizabeth’s positive attitude, encouragement, and energy make our training sessions more enjoyable than I could’ve ever imagined. Second, due to spinal surgeries I had decades ago and a degenerative knee condition, I demand great thought and care in choosing the types of physical activity I can perform. Because of Elizabeth’s education and her dedication to her field, I felt completely safe and comfortable with her from the very beginning and time has only proven that I was correct to trust her. Third, and finally, a congenital heart condition further restricts the types of exercises I can perform and even limits the intensity of my workouts. Once again, Elizabeth’s knowledge and skills ensure that I never perform any exercise that would harm me and she watches my heart rate like a hawk to eliminate any risk of stressing my condition. Week after week, Elizabeth rises to the challenge of training me with dedication, creative workouts, and good humor.
There are many fitness enthusiasts who take a certification or two and call themselves trainers. Some of them may even do a good job. But to address the challenges that a varied and complex clientele present, only a dedicated professional like Elizabeth will provide the level of expertise, authority, and experience needed.
And, while I never be someone who loves to exercise, I am someone who loves having Elizabeth as my personal trainer.”
-Denise L. from Philadelphia
“Brian is a wonderful personal trainer. While working with him and his workout plan, I lost several inches and gained significant strength. I had trouble staying motivated for long with many programs, but his personal attention and time made me stick with my regimen and kept me focused. I even ran my first 5K a couple months ago, something I never thought I’d do. If you’re looking for a personal trainer in Philly, definitely give Brian a call.”
- Suzy G. from Philadelphia
“As an attempt to get in better shape, and try something that I haven’t tried yet, I started researching personal trainers in the city. I came across Philly Personal Training, and after reading all the reviews, I decided to give it a shot. I have been working out with Elizabeth since September and love it. No two work outs are the same, which keeps me interested. I look forward to my Wednesday workouts. Scheduling is very flexible, and the whole staff works with you to make sure you are meeting your fitness goals through diet and devising workouts on days that you do not have a session. Everyone is very friendly, knowledgeable, and it is a nice, clean, updated facility!”
- Katie B. from Philadelphia
“I do not have the discipline to exercise on my own, so I have tried personal trainers before without any success. Some demanded too much from me so I was almost fainting in the middle of the workout; some others did not really care so I lost interest. The workouts that I do with Brian are exciting and demanding enough to keep me engaged, yet not so demanding that I feel like they surpass my abilities. With one weekly meeting I have gained strength, firmness and definition. And he keeps adapting the exercises to what I can do, so it feels like I’m really accomplishing something. I really think that he is a great trainer.”
- Alba N. from Philadelphia
“I could not be happier with the results I am seeing with my body after working out with Elizabeth for only 4 weeks so far. The personalized workouts which Elizabeth has put together absolutely target the areas I need to get stronger and leaner and already I feel a huge difference in the way my clothes fit. Elizabeth is extremely skilled in her profession as a personal trainer and creates the perfect workout to match your goals!”
-Julie T. from Philadelphia
“I have always been a person concerned about my weight and diet, and would try any means necessary to lose that extra 5 lbs. I used the gym about 6 times a week, and attempted almost every diet advertised. About 2 months ago, I decided I needed a personal trainer to assist in achieving my goals as I knew I hit a plateau. I researched a few different gyms and people, and Brian’s background seemed to have the expertise I was looking for. I couldn’t be happier with my selection! Between the weekly sessions and customized diet, I have seen results that I have been striving to achieve for the past 2 years. The sessions are challenging, but there is no better feeling than knowing how much muscle you are gaining, and seeing how different your clothes fit. The best part, I am eating MORE, losing weight and cutting down the number of days I spend in the gym to about 3 or 4! Not only does Brian provide new and challenging exercises, he takes the time to explain what my body is experiencing as far as weight loss, and the reflection on the scale. I was always hesitant to weigh myself and take measurements, but I am looking forward to my 2 month check-in. I have had a great experience with Brian, and would definitely recommend him as a personal trainer.”
- Kerry B. from Philadelphia
“Elizabeth has been my personal trainer for the last 3 years. I am pleased to have an opportunity to speak about her strengths and expertise. I typically work out with Elizabeth two hours per week. In the years that we have been working together, Elizabeth has always succeeded at keeping each workout relevant and unique. I love sports and Elizabeth makes every attempt to create game-like exercises or exercises that will help me in my activities outside of the gym. She is responsive to my reservations about certain tasks, but she never accepts that I cannot do an exercise. She may modify it, but she always manages to motivate me to accomplish it.
Elizabeth has an unbelievable ability to make each workout new and different from the last. Very rarely do we do the same activity more than once or twice. She is exceptionally creative when it comes to using every piece of equipment in the gym. Her creativity during our workout sessions is what makes me return each week. Working with Elizabeth has improved my overall strength, balance, endurance, and appearance. She frequently asks me what I would like to work on and what areas I would like to improve on. She listens well and always treats me respectfully and patiently.
As a personal trainer, Elizabeth has to ask people to do tasks that are typically uncomfortable or difficult. She is tremendously talented at getting you to accomplish tasks that you never thought you could do. She possesses that perfect combination of “gentle insistence”. She believes in you, so you learn to believe in yourself. She is quick to smile and even quicker to laugh. It is truly a pleasure to work with her both professionally and personally. I am proud of all I have accomplished in the gym these past few years, but I would have never accomplished any of it without Elizabeth’s guidance and support.”
-Erica S. from Philadelphia
“As a former college athlete, I have always felt confident about my ability to train myself. So when Elizabeth approached me to offer her expertise, I was smug to say the least. I had never hired a trainer before and I thought that my more recent struggles with fitness were just a matter of not having time to fit in my workouts. I was unconvinced that a younger woman could be much help. I decided to try working with her in the interest of changing my routine – not expecting a real serious challenge. How wrong I was. In the months that followed, Elizabeth pushed me harder than I imagined she could. Her methods stretched my limits with grace and professionalism. I am so glad that I put my preconceptions aside and was able to benefit from her knowledge of exercise and fitness.”
-Jonathan S. from Philadelphia
“Brian is by far the best personal trainer I have ever worked with. Given my track record with inconsistent workouts, I needed someone extremely knowledgeable, motivated yet encouraging who could push me to my limit.
Over the last few months, no two workouts have been the same! He appropriately varies the intensity of each exercise so that it working out is challenging yet fun. I love not knowing what comes next. I wear a heart rate monitor and regularly burn between 500 and 700 calories per workout. I cannot believe how fast noticeable changes are occurring. I have lost pounds, inches with more energy and stamina than I could ever imagine.
Brian is a true professional who truly cares about helping me achieve my goals. I will always appreciate the extra emails, text messages, newsletters and calls that remind me the genuine character he possesses.
There is still a long way to go to achieve my weight loss and fitness goals, but am confident that I with Brian’s help I will meet AND even surpass them in no time. Thanks to him, for the first time in a long time I am looking forward to Spring!”
- Lisa J. from Philadelphia
“Brian is a great personal trainer. At first I was a bit apprehensive about going to a personal trainer, but after a few short weeks I saw dramatic results. Every week I show up to a new, challenging workout. Brian has also given me customized workout plans for days I train at home. His knowledge about fitness and nutrition is second to none. When I first started working out with Brian, we set up benchmarks and goals that would be checked every three months. In my first three months I greatly exceeded all of those goals. I highly recommend Brian to anyone looking to for a personal trainer.”
- Larry F. from Philadelphia
“I highly recommend Brian as a personal trainer. I found him last year after a doctor visit, when I learned that my hemoglobin A1c was measured at 6%, indicating an elevated risk for diabetes. I have a strong family history of diabetes, and I worried that before long I would have to take medication, just like my father who became diabetic around my age.
I was told that some people can delay diabetes by employing “lifestyle modifications”, but I didn’t think that this would work for me, as I don’t like to exercise. Still, given the alternatives – as vividly represented by my father’s deteriorating health – I figured I would try it.
Brian’s exercise and diet program turned out to be completely feasible. The physical demands were significant but not so taxing that I ever considered giving up. The time commitment was also reasonable and easily fit into my busy schedule.
Improvement was tangible, measureable and pretty quick. Last month, 7 months into the program, my hemoglobin A1c was measured again. It had dropped to 5.4%, which is well within the normal range. I’m delighted by this result. There are other parameters that Brian keeps track of, such as percent body fat, waist circumference, etc. All of these numbers have significantly improved.
I’m glad that I took a chance at “lifestyle modification”. In addition to the improved lab results, I feel a little more optimistic about my future. Hiring Brian was easily the best investment I made this year.”
- David K. from Philadelphia
“I started training with Brian to lose a few extra pounds and gain some more muscle definition.
Brian was always attentive and encouraging. I really looked forward to our training sessions each week. The training sessions were never repetitive or boring, and they were always challenging. Brian pushed me each session, but was never pushy. He paid attention to my fitness level and goals, specifically my lower back problems. Brian made sure to include exercises that targeted my weaker muscle groups in each session. Over the past few months, my back has gotten strong enough that I no longer feel pain when I do other exercises.
Brian also helped me to do a complete overhaul of my meal plan. Thanks to his nutrition guidance, I now eat so much more fresh fruit and veggies than I ever did before. The meals are budget-friendly and easy to prepare, so it is something I will stick with long-term.
Brian is a great trainer and I had fun at ever session. I’d recommend it to anyone looking to lose weight, tone, or just improve your overall fitness.”
- Liz F. from Philadelphia
“I’m 62 years old, I was in Philly on an extended work contract. At about the time I turned 45 I found myself putting on weight. By the time I reached out to Brian, I had ballooned up to 270 at 5’8. Brian came to my apartment gym 3 to 4 times per week, he evaluated me and explained how we were going to get me in shape. Brian was my motivator, if I had a bad week he helped me through it. I was able to work with Brian for about 8 months then my work contract ended, so after much thought of how will I do this without Brian I realized that he had been more than a trainer, he had given me the tools and motivation to continue without him by my side. It’s been almost 1 year since I left Philly and I’m 4 sizes smaller, I’m off most of my medications and more motivated to lose the 2 additional sizes back to what I was wearing in my 20′s and 30′s.
Thank you Brian for taking on the challenge and helping me obtain my dreams.
If you’re looking for a trainer in Philly, call Brian, I guarantee you will achieve what you need with Brian’s help. Also, his weekly tips are the best, that’s my favorite email I receive!”
- Betty E. from Philadelphia
“I worked with Brian for several months and made great strides in my health. From my initial fitness test, where I was huffing and puffing until a few months later – when I was able to easily do the basics, and far surpass my cardio goals. The key was doing your work and simple changes that Brian made to my exercises to make it more efficient in the same amount of time. Brian also gave me a diet to follow and while I wasn’t as good in this regard, we found areas where I could improve. Having him focus both on my exercising and my eating helped me take the next step in becoming healthier and losing weight in the process. I would highly recommend Brian and the staff for you work with.”
- Paul K. from Philadelphia
“I purchased the 10-session package with Brian and have had a phenomenal experience so far. Having never worked out seriously before, Brian has provided a great balance between pushing me to my limits and offering the support I needed when I just wanted to stop. Brian’s prices are very reasonable, especially considering the wealth of knowledge he brings not only to workout sessions, but also in helping craft nutritional programs. Based on my experience so far I would definitely recommend Brian to anyone looking for a reasonably priced way to get fast results!”

“When I first came to Brian, I had a goal of running an 8k. With Brian’s help, I reached that goal faster than I had thought and I’m currently training for a half marathon!”

“I have just completed my first 10-session package and got another 10-session commitment with Brian. My first 10-session work-out program was a challenging one which got me in shape already. Brian combined my half-marathon training with his work-out program perfectly. You can tell right away he knows what he’s doing and is serious about getting you back on track when you need motivation.”

“Brian’s calm and confident approach as a personal trainer enabled my wife and I to make significant gains – reversing years of inactivity and putting us on a firm path of sustainable and productive exercise. Always assured, never frenetic, Brian created workouts that my wife and I could take on together, that supported our mutual goals, and that educated us about how to approach health and fitness in our “middle” years.”

“Once my son was 8 months old I decided it was time to get serious about losing my baby weight. I needed an exercise regimen that I could do at home using only the small amount of weights I already owned. Brian created a series of workouts for me that I could pick from depending on whether I had 20 minutes or 50 minutes that day; exactly the kind of flexibility a parent needs. Each workout targeted a variety of muscles and got my heart rate pumping. After our first workout together I was completely exhausted and sore since it had been such a long time since I’d exercised. But with each subsequent workout I could feel my body slowly coming back. By our last training session together, I was noticeably stronger and had the lung capacity to breath through the tough parts. In addition to the training, Brian and I discussed motivation techniques, nutrition, healthy eating habits, and tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. With Brian’s help I not only reached my pre-pregnancy weight but am even a few pounds less. He got me back on track to a healthier body and mind.”

“Before training with Brian I could barely walk/jog for 3 minutes straight and now he has me going for 40 minute runs. He understands that working out is not the only component of reaching your goals. Compared to the other trainers in the area, Brian has unrivaled professionalism and can help people achieve different goals. Other people I came across were all about body building and not really geared toward my goals. He takes time to make sure you meet your nutritional and activity goals. One thing I like is that you are always able to reach him whether it is by calling, text, or email. I like how he also embraces technology as well with his website and interactive meal plan website. He basically gives you what to eat for every meal and snack and then it compiles into a grocery list at the end so you know what to buy. The newsletters he sends are also very helpful. I enjoy his flexibility with scheduling workouts and drive to keep pushing you farther. People I haven’t seen in a while keep on telling me that I lost weight which feels great! I can only thank Brian for that! It is great to have a personal trainer because he makes sure you are using the proper weight, form, and technique. He knows how to make the most out of the time you allot to workout.”

“I have always been an athletic person and used the gym regularly, but before my wedding I needed an extra push to get fit. Brian’s personal training sessions were excellent – they pushed me just enough to get the results I wanted. I lost 6 pounds to get to my goal weight and have built lean muscle all over my body. It really is true that weight training as a woman does not make you larger, but really tones you and helps you lose weight faster. Brian has a great demeaner which makes it easy to work with him! He always built the work outs especially for me and changes them up each time so the sessions never seem boring. I have had a great experience with Brian, and would definitely recommend him as a personal trainer and train with him again in the future.”

“When I began to train with Brian I was extremely out of shape. I was trying to lose 40 pounds and improve my overall health. In less than 3 months, I lost 20 pounds, began to build muscle and felt better than I had in years. It was great working with Brian, he was encouraging during my sessions and helped keep me focused on my goals.”

I have been working with Brian for a year now and am very satisfied with the results. A year ago, I set myself a goal to improve both on my cardio fitness as well as my anaerobic (weight lifting) fitness. Both of the goals where achieved under the guidance of Brian. Brian is an expert in fitness training and was very friendly and approachable with any question I had (even over weekends, by email!). If you’re looking for a personal trainer — I highly recommend Brian Maher.

For the past ten years, I’ve kept myself in pretty good cardiovascular shape by running at least five miles almost every day. During this time, I never weight trained and thus neglected my upper body and abdomen. Last summer, I had more free time and made the decision to finally get serious about being in better shape. I made the commitment to get a personal trainer. After a bit of googling, I met Brian and have been working with him for the past 13 months. Under Brian’s supervision, I’ve completely changed my upper body. I’ve gradually put on over 10 pounds of muscle, reduced my body fat, increased my running speed, altered my eating habits and generally have more energy.
My transformation was rather straightforward – I just met with Brian twice a week and followed his instructions. It’s that simple. I haven’t done any weight training on my own. Brian designed my training towards my goals, using only the weight training equipment in my apartment building. No two sessions have been the same and thus I’ve never been bored. It seems that every week or two I continue to advance in most exercises, in terms of weight, repetitions or both. I’ve more than tripled or quadrupled the weight I can lift in every exercise (and that’s not an exaggeration). We’re well on the way to my ultimate goal – a six pack. I’m still not sure it’s possible but I’m convinced my only way of getting there is with Brian’s help. So, it’s safe to say that if you’re looking for a positive change in your physical conditioning, I recommend contacting Brian.
